Michel Dumont (°1946)
Medium: Schilderijen / Peintures / Paintings / Marines (BE)

Michel Dumont
Born in 1946
Belgian Marine Painter
Graduated in 1968 at Saint- Luc institute, Brussels.

Originally this artist was more inspired by photography than by painting.

Having shot more than 10000 slides he ends up with a certain unsatisfied feeling towards his work.
He feels the urge to “correct” his work.
It is the first time that he follows his feelings on paper, using 2 techniques, which he is best at: gouache and Chinese ink.

This graphical educated artist, painted for pleasure first cathedrals, erotic humour and later on objects.

In 1977 he was nominated “Belgian Marine painter” and tried to make his dream come true by using acrylic paint on canvas.
He wanted to overrule the classical marine painters and looked for new styles, more actual and graphical.
His colourful paintings, with precise lines and hyper- realistic forms, tell us the story of his passion for fishing trawlers, tugboats, poops, lighthouses, buoys, ports of Ostende till Dunkirk, Saint-Tropez till La Rochelle… this special world of the sea, at which we look with pleasure and often with some anxiety to travel to far away places.

Michel Dumont dressed as a real seafarer; shorts, striped jersey, sandals and a Dali moustache, is un-defeat able while painting any kind of sea scenes.

Exhibitions:
Bosvoorde, Castle Van Karneveld, Oostende, St Tropez, Laureate 38th Marine Museum Paris, Knokke, Brussels, Marine Museum in Dunkirk, Antwerp.
