Medium: Paintings /Sculptures (BE)

Lieve Goeminne

The artist is born in Blankenberge and has her atelier in Bruges(Belgium).Drawing and painting has always taken a central place in her live. She started as an autodidact with painting of landscapes and marines. After a year she decided to follow lessons at the Academy of Bruges where she painted models “anatomical painting”.
Her teachers were Mr Janssens and Robert Devriendt. Under the influence of the Academy and her predilection for the “Cobra-movement” she evolved to abstract painting. She followed courses in France and the Netherlands.
Under all this influences she developed to a very personal abstract form of art and by this way she became a polyvalent artist.

Lieve starts with a line of thought and when she paints the painting evolves to his form without losing its content.
The art of Lieve Goeminne situates between abstract and figurative the figures in her painting are connected with the relations between people.
This is emotional art of which strong vibrations emanate because they are made with strong emotions of the artist. She is convinced that there is a big emotional involvement between the artist, the painting and the observer.
The subject of her art is about the vulnerability, fragility of people.
The vulnerability of the body and the mind.
That is why she uses gauze in her paintings and then she puts the humans in the centre and lightening them with Indian yellow to emphasize the important of men in the society. She uses also concrete, sand, lead and gold-leaf.
Lieve Goeminne doesn’t want to be putted in one kind of art. She finds that painting, every kind, every style of painting is a way of living.
She is very self-willed, she knows what she wants and how she wants to express herself.
Lieve creates what lives in her instead of representing the reality. The unconscious of which she sources her inspiration is like a volcano in a very active faze, the paintings flow from it like a stream of lava.
The paintings are original, standing for themselves, are built powerful because the artist knows what she wants to make.

The paintings are built lightly, because the painting takes its form and its meaning coat after coat.

Lieve Goeminne: “ Starting from the matter I achieve to obtain expression of life in the form of a painting that’s not alone a structure of colours and lines, but where a spontaneous human sentiment is a victory on the matter and every aesthete conception.”
I let my thoughts take their own course and under the impulse of nearly the automatic act of painting I start to feel free. If I paint, I don’t criticize what I have done, that comes later. The suggestion that starts from the matter puts the creativity into work.
It is the meeting between the row materials that inspire me to the right forms and ideas. In the stream of a spontaneous feeling of life takes that what lives in me form.
Like Miro said in 1959 : “ I work like a gardener. Things grow slowly. I don’t discover my language of forms immediately. It takes time. Things are following their natural course. They grow, they mature.”

The artist: “ I don’t want to paint without meaning, but I want to get to the bottom of the theme to understand it from the inside and so process them in a composition of balance in form and colour in my own artistic way.”
The artist has to say something, for it is not his duty to control the form, but to adjust the form to the contents.”

If I work I feel free, I’m in balance and the first impulse leads me. Than all my energy goes to the painting.
She says about herself: ”Art is a confrontation, it is a duel between the own thoughts and the virgin surface. It is a feverish search of balance between form and colour, quiet and disquiet, silence and movement, violence and calmness.

My works don’t belong neither to the figurative neither to the abstract kind. I try to tread the middle way between these two extremes and I connect them together.

The result is as best as I can: a perfect reflection of my inner perception of life.”
