Some notes on my painting.
The point of departure of each of my paintings is an intuition, something very simple and sensory that generally touches the domain of colour
For example, I might mentally sense the presence of a clear red near a dark pink and the vibration produced by these two tones.
Thus an entire dynamic is set in motion : the desire to reveal this red-pink rapport in a painting ; the delightful surprise , during this creation , in discovering just how much life is in this proximity of coloured masses; and the growing self-confidence that it is possible to initiate a painting project with just these premises.
Then there may be a need to enrich this starting red-pink relationship with other relations : for example a black –white pairing, or a combination of black and clear green, can lead to the kind of equivalencies that become factors of internal stability.
The motor of my activity is the fact that I have never before tested particular colour relations in connection with certain forms.
This is why I often begin several families of compositions at about the same time.
My goal is to achieve an organic entity.
Every successful picture is just one point of equilibrium in a formal problem that is open to a thousand orientations.
